The history of Next Electric Motors is an example of Spanish entrepreneurship in the sustainable mobility sector. The brand was born from the ingenuity and passion of a team of young engineers for the world of motoring and technology.
Origins and Foundation
Next Electric Motors was founded in 2017 by four young entrepreneurs in Valencia. The idea arose from the experience of two of the founders, Estefanía Hernández and Antonio Navarro, who had been world innovation champions in the Motostudent 2016 university competition. Motivated by their success and the experience gained, they decided to apply their knowledge to create a company.
Next's main purpose was to address one of the biggest barriers to the adoption of electric vehicles: the high price. Their objective was to offer a real and affordable alternative to petrol motorbikes for daily urban commutes, without the cost involving an excessive outlay.
Growth and First Steps
The Next project was driven from its inception by Lanzadera, the start-up incubator and accelerator owned by Juan Roig (owner of Mercadona). This support was crucial for validating their business model and for the launch of their first model.
In 2019, Next launched its first electric scooter, the NX1, onto the market. This model stood out for its minimalist design and, above all, for its light, removable batteries, which could be easily charged in any conventional socket. This feature quickly differentiated it from the competition.
Expansion and Evolution
The success of the NX1 allowed the company to consolidate its position in the Spanish market and begin its international expansion. In a short time, they signed distribution agreements in European countries such as the Netherlands and Belgium, demonstrating the viability of their proposal.
Over time, Next has been expanding its catalogue to cover the needs of a wider clientele. They have launched models such as the Mojito, with its distinctive retro design, and the NX2, a high-performance scooter designed to compete directly with 125 cc combustion motorbikes.
Today, Next Electric Motors has positioned itself as one of the leading brands in the electric motorcycle sector in Spain, recognised for its focus on innovation, design, and accessibility, with the clear objective of contributing to the electrification of urban mobility.
